The Abia State Government has unveiled the programme of events marking the third anniversary of the administration of Governor Alex Otti, outlining a weeklong series of activities designed to showcase achievements across key sectors of governance.
In a press release issued by the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, the government said the celebration would highlight the administration’s progress in infrastructure, healthcare, transportation, technology, youth empowerment, water resources, and grassroots development.
According to the statement, the anniversary will also serve as an opportunity to present scorecards of the administration’s performance over the last three years under what it described as purposeful and people-centred leadership.
The programme is scheduled to run for one week and will feature project commissioning, flag-offs of new initiatives, stakeholder engagements, thanksgiving services, sports activities, documentary presentations, and a state banquet.
Opening Activities
The celebration will begin on Sunday, May 24, 2026, with an interdenominational thanksgiving service at the Tradmore Complex by Okpara Square, Umuahia. The service is scheduled for 12 noon.
Other activities on the day include the flag-off of the Ecumenical Centre and the Ubakala Water Scheme.
Executive Council Meeting and Project Commissioning
On Monday, May 25, 2026, the government will hold a special anniversary Executive Council meeting, alongside the presentation of scorecards by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The day will also feature the NKATA Technology Enabling Business Grant initiative, as well as the commissioning and flag-off of several infrastructure projects across Isiala Ngwa South and Umuahia.
Projects listed for commissioning include the Umuikama–Okpuala Nvosi Road, the Umunkpeyi–Umuaro Okpokiri Road, and the Government Cottage Hospital, Umuihie, while the Okpuala Ngwa General Hospital will be flagged off.
Infrastructure Drive and Social Outreach
On Tuesday, May 26, Governor Alex Otti is expected to personally lead further commissioning exercises and project flag-offs, alongside a humanitarian visit to orphanages and destitute homes by the First Lady, Priscilla Otti.
Road and infrastructure projects scheduled for commissioning and flag-off include multiple road networks across Aba, Umuahia, Isiala Ngwa South, and surrounding communities.
Key projects include the Aro Amano–Eke Aro Road, Adaelu Road, Geometric Road, Afule Road, Assemblies of God Church Road, 7-Up–Umuchichi Link Road, Nwogu Ajagba Street, Nwala Street, Sacred Heart Street, Elizabeth Avenue, Brewery Road, Etche Road, Mosque Road, Crystal Park Road, and the first phase of the Aba Ring Road.
Children’s Day and Sports Events
On Wednesday, May 27, activities will focus on social engagement and youth development, including a Children’s Day celebration scheduled for 10:00 a.m. and the Abia Soccer Fest at 3:30 p.m.
The government will also commission several infrastructure projects, including the Umuahia Bus Terminal, as well as roads linking Onuimo to Tower Road, Opet to Ahia Eke Road, Ahia Eke to Bende Road, Library Avenue, Ibiam Street, and Club Road.
Documentary Launch and Wider Development Projects
On Thursday, May 28, 2026, the administration will host the launch of an anniversary documentary and public lecture at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, scheduled for 10:00 a.m., followed by a reception in Isuikwuato Local Government Area.
The day will also feature commissioning and flag-off of several development projects across Isuikwuato, Igbere, and Ohafia, including roads, primary healthcare centres, and sections of the Umuahia–Uzuakoli–Abiriba–Ohafia Road.
Other highlights include maintenance and asphalt overlay works on parts of the Abiriba Ring Road, as well as the flag-off of the Abia Specialist Hospital in Umunnato.
Grand Finale
The celebration will conclude with a state parade at 10:00 a.m. followed by a grand state banquet at 5:00 p.m., expected to host government officials, stakeholders, diplomats, traditional rulers, youth groups, and members of the public.
The government said the anniversary reflects its commitment to rebuilding Abia State through transparency, infrastructure renewal, economic growth, and people-centred governance.
It invited residents, development partners, and stakeholders to participate in what it described as a historic celebration of progress and visionary leadership in the state.
