Abia legislator asks FG to suspend planned hike of electricity tariff

Hon. Erondu Junior Erondu, member representing Obingwa West State constituency in the State state House of Assembly, has urged the federal government to suspend its planned hike of electricity tariff billed to take effect from July 1, 2023.

This was contained in motion he moved during a plenary session of the State House of Assembly on Tuesday.

Erondu argued that Nigerians were already passing through a lot of hard time as a result the removal of petroleum subsidy by the federal government.

He said, “I moved a motion that the house should urge the federal government to suspend the electricity tariff hike proposed for first of July 1 2023, so that they can cushion the effect the subsidy removed from the price of Petrol.

“I’m not saying that the government should not hike electricity price or jestton it but they should suspend it for us to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal on the ordinary man on the street before introducing it”.
