A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State and former governorship aspirant, Omooba Dotun Babayemi, has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the party’s victory in the August 15, 2026 gubernatorial election.
Babayemi pledged to work in unity with other party leaders and stakeholders to secure electoral success for the APC in the state.
He made the declaration in Ilobu during a meeting with the APC Elders’ Caucus, Igbimo-Agba Osun, held at the residence of its chairman.
Babayemi was among the aspirants who contested for the party’s governorship ticket before the primary election, which produced Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, as the APC flagbearer.
Speaking at the meeting, Babayemi emphasized the importance of party discipline and respect for elders in strengthening internal cohesion ahead of the poll.
“Our party is a party of structure and discipline at all levels. We are here today to listen to our elders. They indicated last week that they wanted to see me, but as Yoruba people, I could not allow all my fathers and grandfathers to come to my house, so I chose to come here to hear them out,” he said.
“It is obvious that we are going to work in unity for our party to be victorious on August 15. Although they have not explicitly stated why they came to see me, I believe it is in furtherance of that collective effort.
“On August 15, 2026, and by January 16, 2027, we can rest assured that the APC will be victorious in Osun State,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Igbimo-Agba Osun, Engr. Sola Akinwumi, had earlier met with former APC National Secretary and former governorship aspirant, Senator Iyiola Omisore, at his Ile-Ife residence as part of moves to foster unity within the party ahead of the election.
The engagements by the APC Elders’ Caucus are seen as part of broader reconciliation efforts aimed at strengthening party cohesion and consolidating support for its candidate ahead of the 2026 governorship poll in Osun State.
