An Islamic cleric and Chief Imam of Ajagbemokeferi Central Mosque, Ogo-Oluwa, Osogbo, Sheikh Lukman Tijani Adekunle, has commended the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, for what he described as his strong faith, humility and philanthropic disposition.

The cleric spoke on Friday as political activities intensify ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

Sheikh Adekunle described Oyebamiji as a man of conscience and expressed confidence in his capacity to govern with integrity if elected governor. He urged the APC candidate to prioritise key sectors such as education, health, agriculture, security and infrastructure for the benefit of the people.

“Oyebamiji is, without doubt, a pride of Islam and a symbol of religiosity, judging by his consistent support for the propagation of the faith and his immense contributions to the advancement of humanity,” the cleric said.

He testified to Oyebamiji’s longstanding relationship with the mosque and the Muslim community, noting his humility and quiet support for Islamic causes.

“This is not his first time of praying with us in this mosque. He often identifies with us and usually stays at the back. He is humility personified. He is known for faithfulness, sincerity and piety. As a silent philanthropist, Allah has used him to build several mosques across the state. These virtues set him apart,” Sheikh Adekunle added.

The cleric stressed that Islam does not forbid participation in politics, noting that what matters is leadership anchored on conscience, faithfulness and service to the people.

He also lamented the challenges facing critical sectors in Osun State, particularly education, health, agriculture, security and infrastructure, and urged Oyebamiji to place the welfare of the masses, especially the underprivileged, at the centre of his governance agenda if elected.

“My candid advice to our incoming governor, Insha-Allah, is to prioritise critical sectors of the economy. The education sector needs a total overhaul. Agriculture should also receive serious attention so that we can achieve food sufficiency and security. The health sector equally requires urgent revitalisation, just as security and other key sectors,” he said.

In his remarks, Oyebamiji thanked Almighty Allah for guidance and protection, reaffirming his commitment to repositioning Osun State’s economy for the benefit of its people.

The APC governorship candidate, who was accompanied by party chieftains, urged residents of the state to support his ambition, saying he was determined to improve governance and transform the socio-economic fortunes of Osun.

He also recalled the love and dedication of Prophet Muhammad and his disciples to the cause of Islam, calling on the people to rally behind him in his bid to administer the affairs of the state with fairness and compassion.
