What no one can tell you about the 2015 City People Awards

citypeople

It is no longer news that the 2015 City People Awards ceremony held on August 16 2015, took place at the Time Square Event Center, Ikeja. You may want to know, however, that it was a gathering for movers and shakers in the entertainment industry. Celebrities from the entertainment industry in Nigeria and Ghana were at the event. The likes of Olu Jacobs and wife, Joke Silva, Kenneth Okonkwo, Kate Henshaw, MI Abaga, Juliet Ibrahim among others, were present.

MI wowed the audience

Talented musician, MI Abaga got his fans on their feet while he performed some of his old tracks, every one sang along with him.

Odunlade Adekola shocked many

Many of his colleagues stormed the stage to celebrate with him when he was announced as the Best Actor of the Year. And many were intrigued with the way he comported himself while giving thanks, praises to God and his fans for the award. A bird who squealed behind my back said she has waited for that day when the handsome actor would be able to express himself in English language properly. “It was a dream come true for me and I am happy for him”, she stated.

And he parted away with some cash…

Immediately after the awards which he compared with that of Iyabo Ojo, he rushed out, trust his fans who wanted him to part away with some cash, they scampered behind him. If the Glo Ambassador had pre-empted what it would be like at the end of the event or parked his car at a long distance, they still ran after him in order to keep up with the pace at which he moved. At the end he parted away with some wads of hundred naira notes which they gladly shared among themselves.

Iyabo Ojo and OdunladeAdekola excited

Iyabo Ojo and Odunlade Adekola almost marred the last categories of the award which they both compered. The duo didn’t get their bearings on time and no one could fathom if it was the excitement of the award received or they thought they were in a movie location. While giving out the awards they were mostly corrected by the audience especially when announcing names of the artistes or the title of the award to be given. MTV base Veejay, Ehis corrected them while he was presented with the VJ of the year which they called DJ. Iyabo Ojo got the award for best actress of the year (Yoruba)

Mide Martins confused complexioned

Wife of multi talented actor, Afeez Owoh Abiodun, Mide Martins who premiered her movie Abike weeks ago was dressed in a one-strapped long gown. But so much for her confusing colour courtesy of the cream she may have used in the past, her face was lighter and her hand and back dark. The back of her gown which was opened revealed the blackheads and dark spot she has obviously battled for years which should have been covered.

Toyin Lawani breezed in

She obviously just came for the collection of the award, no sooner than the plaque was given to her than she left. She arrived at the scene of the event at the latter part of the night.

Reekardo Banks,Korede Bello and Dija

Though the most promising act of the year was given to Reekado Banks, but Korede Bello who many thought would get the award was not deterred. He performed his Godwin song to the delight of all. The moment he got on stage, his fans sang along with him. Reekado Banks and Diijaa also performed their popular tracks.  The award for the Record label of the year was given to Marvin records

Shina Peller was “noticed”

When popular Nite club owner and son of late magician, Shinapeller entered the premises of the event everyone present wanted to know who came in. With a full siren blarring from the automobile which brought him he stepped out and walked as if he never wanted to be noticed. Nite club of the year was given to his club, Quilox

And Syl was remembered

Late Classic Fm presenter, Sylvester “Sly” Ojigbede who passed away months ago got the post humourous award. There was a minute silence in honour of his departed soul.

Wizkid, Don Jazzy, Olamide…

The likes of Don Jazzy,Olamide Wizkid were nowhere to be found at the event. For Olamide who was announced as winners for Artistes of the year, and Rap artistes of the year, his YBNL crew consisting of Dekunle Gold,Skibi and some other came on stage to get the award. For Wizkid, Ehiz was on stage to get the award but was later received by another person.

Mercy Aigbe came with daughter

Beautiful actress, Mercy Aigbe who got the award for Yoruba Movie personality of the year came with her daughter who is almost her height. Mercy was clad in a light lemon gown. Ghanian actress, Juliet Ibrahim beautiful sister was also sighted at the event
